Love May Fail may have succeeded in finding its leading lady.

Emma Stone is circling TriStar’s adaptation of the latest novel from Matthew Quick, whose Silver Linings Playbook was made into a movie that earned Jennifer Lawrence an Oscar.

Published in June, Love May Fail tells the story of Portia Kane, who escapes a ritzy life and cheating husband in Florida and returns to her South Jersey hometown, where she tries to help her embattled high-school English teacher.

Mike White wrote the screenplay. A director has yet to be named for the film, which is being produced by Matt Tolmach (The Amazing Spider-Man, the forthcoming Jumanji reboot) and Elizabeth Cantillon (Concussion). Sony acquired the rights to Quick’s novel in 2013, and the project recently moved from the studio’s Columbia Pictures division over to TriStar.

Stone graced the big screen earlier this year in Irrational Man and Aloha, and she’ll next be seen in La La Land, a musical dramedy from Whiplash director Damien Chazelle.

Deadline first reported Stone’s potential involvement in Love May Fail.
