Christopher Reeve’s famous Superman costume is heading to the auction block.
The “muscle tunic,” worn by Reeve when he played the Man of Steel in Richard Donner’s 1978 film Superman, will be sold by Nate D. Sanders Auctions on Nov. 19.
The tunic, designed by Oscar-winning costume designer Yvonne Blake, is constructed from a flexible, German-made fabric that absorbed sweat stains. According to the auction house, Reeve refused to wear a muscle suit and, in a great nerd crossover, trained with Darth Vader body actor David Prowse to prepare for the superhero role.
The label on the back of the item reads, “CHRISTOPHER REEVE / 12312 WITH MUSCLES / SUPERMAN.”
Bidding is set to begin at $50,000.
