Grammy-nominated alt-rockers Mutemath have been producing music for over a decade, and this Friday they’ll release their fourth studio LP, Vitals. Speaking of the project, lead singer Paul Meany says, “We wanted to look at what we’ve done over 10 years and with respect to that, find a way to make it fresh for ourselves and very now — and push ourselves to this new place, find that spark again that got us started.”

Now, EW is thrilled to premiere a preview of that new place via our latest Basement Session recording.

The New Orleans-based quartet gave an acoustic performance of the new album’s lead single, “Light Up,” which Meany says came from a heated battle he and his wife went through last year. “This song is sort of about the endurance of love,” he says by way of introducing the track. “Love that’s been put to the test and trying to find the most essentials parts of it to continue on.”

“Light Up” is streaming below. Vitals is out Friday, November 13.
