The R&B singer returned just in time to avoid elimination.
Tamar Braxton almost got booted from Dancing With the Stars Monday after she was forced to seek hospitalization for pneumonia.
The R&B singer missed her first contemporary performance with partner Val Chmerkovskiy Monday, which meant the judges had to evaluate her dress rehearsal performance instead. (She and Chmerkovskiy got a 22 out of 30.) Braxton’s rehearsal package helped to explain how the singer got so sick: She had been on and off planes to Las Vegas and Orlando before returning to Los Angeles to prepare for Monday’s show.
When the ABC program began on the East Coast, host Tom Bergeron told viewers he had no information about her condition and was not sure if she’d return in time. Minutes before her final pairs number with competitor Nick Carter, Braxton returned to the studio. That’s when Bergeron reminded her and the audience that she might have been automatically booted, had she not showed up.
“I’m amazed you are here,” he admitted to Braxton.
Braxton and Carter ended up earning a 27 out of 30. After receiving the scores, Braxton looked as though she would pass out. She got more good news after that: She and Chmerkovskiy learned they were safe, while Alexa PenaVega was sent packing.
