Much like the plot of the show, the Quantico news just keep coming. After the casting of Marcia Cross and the reveal that fans will find out the identity of the terrorist much sooner than expected, showrunner Josh Safran went on EW Radio (SiriusXM 105) to give another warning: Don’t get too attached to any character … except maybe Alex.

After discussing what a season 2 could look like — they have a structure in mind but not a specific case — Safran revealed that he’d like different seasons to cover different topics. In other words, every season wouldn’t have to deal with terrorism. But the topic isn’t the only thing Safan would want to change. The cast would, too.

“Everyone has a target on their back,” he said. “They could be the terrorist or they could be a victim. I think that a show like this only works if you’re actually willing to deal with the realities of sacrificing characters that need to be sacrificed to tell the right story.”

So then which characters should we get attached to? “I think the only person that is safe to get attached to is Alex,” Safran said. (Well, too late. We already love them all.)

Quantico airs Sundays at 10 p.m. ET at ABC.
