Daniel Craig caught some heat last month after saying he’d “rather break this glass and slash my wrists” than play James Bond again. (Craig is currently signed to play Bond for five films; his fourth outing as the character, in Spectre, opens Friday.) Ellen Pompeo was among those who criticized the Spectre star’s comments, writing on Twitter that Craig “needs a reality check.”

In an interview with Bevy Smith on SiriusXM’s Radio Andy on Thursday, Pompeo elaborated on her tweet, saying that she’s also “said many a stupid thing,” but that it’s important to keep a sense of perspective.

“I’m guilty of it, too,” Pompeo told Smith. “I complain. And sometimes we need a reality check. There’s people out there who can’t put food on their table, who don’t have the money to clothe their babies, and they have real problems. And sometimes we get a little crazy and spoiled.”

The Grey’s Anatomy star added that she’s a huge fan of Craig and the James Bond series, but she thought “it was a little bit of a dramatic statement,” and when she first read Craig’s comments on Twitter, she decided to respond.

“Isn’t that what Twitter is all about?” Pompeo said. “Just sort of throwing what’s on your mind out there in not too serious a way. So I just impulsively shot from the hip and said this dude needs a reality check. Not with any anger behind it at all. … I think that when things are repeated in the media, it’s always as if, ‘Ooh, she said this with such vengeance or anger.’ And I run my mouth. That’s who I am.”
