William Shatner sang Girl Crush in a Stormtrooper costume at the CMAs
William Shatner boldly went where no man has gone before while making a cameo during the opening number of the Country Music Association Awards on Wednesday evening.
At least, we’re fairly certain that no man has ever donned a snug-fitting Stormtrooper costume, talk-sang a few bars of “Girl Crush,” extolled the virtues of “Shatting out loud,” and plugged not one but two sci-fi franchises on national television until now.
Shatner, the bombastic yet self-deprecating Star Trek star, was of course playing off his Capt. Kirk image, while the CMAs were indulging in an evening of synergistic cross-promotion with the upcoming space opera Star Wars: The Force Awakens. (The CMAs air on ABC, which like Lucasfilm is owned by Disney.)
Watch Shatner do his Shatner thing — as CMA hosts Brad Paisley and Carrie Underwood also get in on the intergalactic goofing — in the video above.
