It’s a powerful moment readers of Suzanne Collins’ Hunger Games saga will remember well — Peeta, now back with the rebels, telling Katniss of the torture he suffered at the hands of the Capitol.

In that scene, which you can see in the clip above from The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 2, Peeta (Josh Hutcherson) tells Katniss (Jennifer Lawrence) that his captors manipulated his memories.

“When they used the venom on me, they would show me pictures of my life. At first they all blurred together, but now, now I can sort them out a little,” he says. “Like the ones that they changed, they have this quality, it’s like they’re shiny. They’ve been glossed over.”

He then poses a question directly to Katniss: “You’re still trying to protect me. Real or not real?”

“Real,” she assures him. “That’s what you and I do. We keep each other alive.”

Mockingjay – Part 2 opens in theaters Nov. 20. Head here to see another recently-released clip featuring Katiss and Johanna Mason (Jena Malone).
