Warner Bros. has released the final trailer for Ron Howard’s survival drama In the Heart of the Sea, based on the real-life story of the epic encounter that was the inspiration for Moby Dick.

The film, adapted from Nathaniel Philbrick’s 2000 National Book Award winner In the Heart of the Sea: The Tragedy of the Whaleship Essex, follows the crew of the Essex after the ship is assaulted by a massive whale in the winter of 1820. That’s just the start of their problems, — first mate Owen Chase (Hemsworth) and his fellow sailors must then brave impossible conditions as they fight to stay alive.

Hemsworth is joined by Tom Holland, Benjamin Walker, Cillian Murphy, Brendan Gleeson, and Ben Whishaw (who, as Herman Melville, can be seen in the trailer penning his novel’s famous opening line) in the film, which dives into theaters on Dec. 11.
