Billy Joel appeared at Game 3 of the World Series Friday night, when the New York Mets beat the Kansas City Royals 9-3 on home turf. Before the game, Joel, who was raised on New York’s Long Island, sang the national anthem, and during the 8th inning, fans serenaded the star with his classic hit, “Piano Man.”

Belting out the tune during the 8th inning has become somewhat of a Mets tradition in recent years, but Joel is rarely there to witness it.

By that time, Joel had taken a seat to watch the game with Kevin James, who came out to celebrate Joel at Nassau Coliseum in August. The camera panned up to Joel and he stood up to sing the song with the crowd

Joel also sang the National Anthem when the Mets were in the 1986 World Series and was the last artist to perform at the old Mets home, Shea Stadium, before it closed in 2008. The shows were later released as Live at Shea Stadium: The Concert.
