Ocean's 11: Sandra Bullock will lead an all-female reboot
Sandra Bullock’s latest role in Our Brand Is Crisis was originally written for George Clooney, and then rewritten for the Oscar-winning actress. Based on some recent news, it sounds like she’s eager to see that switch play itself out all over again.
EW has confirmed that Bullock will lead an all-female reboot of Ocean’s Eleven, with Hunger Games director Gary Ross set to take over for Steven Soderbergh behind the camera.

According to the original report from The Playlist, development on the revitalized ensemble caper started last year with producers George Clooney, Soderbergh, and the late Jerry Weintraub. Olivia Milch, who has recently become an in-demand writer on projects like the adaptation of Greg Rucka’s Queen & Country comic, has written the screenplay.
Ross and Soderbergh have been friends for years, and Soderbergh famously directed some second unit material on The Hunger Games.
With news of the new Ocean’s Eleven and Bullock’s role as the lead out in the open, the question will now turn to who will fill out the rest of the roster. Eager fans of the Hunger Games will no doubt draw a line from Ross to Jennifer Lawrence, especially as the two have seemed keen to reconnect since the first film based Suzanne Collins’ books launched the actress to superstardom. (Last year, Ross and Lawrence were attached to an adadptation of East of Eden.) While that would no doubt be a good fit, Lawrence’s increasingly cramped schedule makes an potential project a matter of timing: She recently entered into talks to star in Darren Aronofsky’s new movie.
As for the rest of the cast, the template for the ensemble really allows anyone — regardless of age or race — to join, which could make for a really diverse group of women. And since an announcement like this opens the flood gates for speculation and fan casting, we’ll put forward one of our own: Why hasn’t Lupita Nyong’o landed any major live-action roles since winning her Oscar? Let’s cast Lupita in the new Ocean’s Eleven. Let’s cast Lupita in everything.
