Breakups are hard and while having a sense of humor can help, jokes made about one’s recent heartbreak aren’t exactly going to keep a newly single soul from digging into a pint of Ben & Jerry’s. That’s why Blake Shelton thinks this year’s Country Music Awards are going to be uncomfortable for him.

“This year’s gonna be awkward at the CMAs, speaking of jokes,” Shelton told Seth Meyers Tuesday on Late Night. “Because we are, it’s such a family. Everybody there is friends. There’s gotta be one about me and Miranda.”

The Voice judge thinks his friend and the evening’s host Brad Paisley will make a joke about his recent divorce from fellow country star Miranda Lambert because he wouldn’t be fulfilling his hosting duties if he ignored the “elephant in the room.”

But Shelton told Paisley he’ll play along. “We’ve had the conversations like, ‘Okay, dude. I’ll sit there and let you kick me in the face a few times,'” he told Meyers. “I know it’s coming.”

Meanwhile, Shelton has been joking about mixing business with pleasure, suggesting toVoice key mentor Rihanna they make celebrity couple “Blihanna” happen.

The CMAs air Nov. 4 at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
