In honor of International Animation Day, Modern Prometheus and its sister company Z2 Comics have announced the debut of their animated short alongside their original comic book series, Welcome To Showside, by acclaimed creator Ian McGinty (Bravest Warriors). Sponsored by geek and gaming manufacturer J!NX, the pilot (helmed by McGinty, who also voices the lead actor role) co-stars the iconic Henry Rollins.

Welcome To Showside focuses on the adventures of Kit, a kid who harbors a dark secret: his dad is the Great Shadow King, and wants Kit to take over the family business of destroying the world. In addition to the pilot, 500 limited edition J!NX variant covers of Welcome to Showside #1 by Katy Farina (The Amazing World of Gumball) will be available as a gift with purchase starting Oct. 28.

“I’m extremely excited to finally premiere WELCOME TO SHOWSIDE: The Animated Short, starring none other than Henry friggin’ Rollins with Corinne Sudberg (Belle) & Amanda Kaufman (Moon),” McGinty tells EW. “This particular incarnation of Welcome to Showside will expand upon the universe established in the comic, as well as showcase new characters not included thus far, like Rollins’ ‘Frank the Lesser Nexus Demon’, (a giant flaming skull with nerd glasses and anger issues) and a certain giant monster voiced by an literal baby. Welcome to Showside also highlights the talents of fresh new studio, Team Friendship GO!, who did an absolutely outstanding job of bringing this weird monstery world from inside my head and onto the screen. With help from Rollins and the cast, all I have left to say is let’s rock & roll.”
