Former Downton Abbey star Dan Stevens has been cast in Colossal alongside Anne Hathaway and Jason Sudeikis, his publicist confirmed to EW.
The movie — directed and written by Nacho Vigalondo — trails a woman (Hathaway) who moves back to her hometown after an ended relationship and recent entry into unemployment. But when a giant creature appears in South Korea, she feels oddly drawn to it. Stevens plays the former boyfriend of Hathaway’s character who tries to get back into her good graces. Production is underway in Vancouver.

It’s another big gig for the 33-year-old Stevens — he was also tapped to topline the live-action remake of Beauty and the Beast as the titular Beast, with Emma Watson. (Things have fared better for him than the fate of his Downton character, Matthew Crawley.)
Colossal is underway despite litigious efforts from Toho. The copyright holder of Godzilla filed a lawsuit in May that alleged Vigalondo and studio Voltage Pictures partook in copyright and trademark infringement, federal trademark dilution, violation of the Lanham Act, and unjust enrichment.
Variety first reported the casting.
