Cousins Amy Schumer and New York Sen. Chuck Schumer united earlier this year in the wake of a shooting during a screening of Trainwreck in Lafayette, Louisiana, and now, they’re calling for a vote on new gun legislation.

Schumer and Schumer announced today on the steps of New York’s City Hall that they’re teaming up again for a new push for gun legislation, with Sen. Schumer introducing specific policy initiatives for stronger background checks. Amy Schumer announced that she’s supporting her cousin’s initiative by encouraging the public to learn more and to speak up against gun violence and by pushing for congressional action on the issue.

Amy Schumer also tweeted Saturday that she dedicated her recent HBO stand-up special to her niece and Mayci Breaux and Jillian Johnson, the two women who were killed during the Lafayette shooting in July.
