Pride and Prejudice and Zombies trailer exclusive: Lizzy Bennet's out for blood
Get ready for more undead bloodshed courtesy of the seriously formidable, weapons-wielding Bennet sisters. The ferocious fighters are bringing the bloodbath to the “sorry stricken” plaguing Regency England in the latest trailer for Pride and Prejudice and Zombies, debuting exclusively on EW.com.
Based on Seth Grahame-Smith’s best-selling mash-up novel, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies (out Feb. 5) recounts the budding romance between heroine extraordinaire Elizabeth Bennet (Downton Abbey‘s Lily James) and the haughty Mr. Darcy (Maleficent‘s Sam Riley), but the courtship takes place in a 19th-century English countryside where victims of a mysterious plague have been roaming for more than 70 years.
Falling in love can be tricky with zombies close by. In the new clip, which follows the release of the U.K. trailer on Friday, Mr. Darcy announces that, among other things, a woman must have a knowledge of the art of war; Lizzy later proclaims that the right man would never ask her to give up her zombie-fighting ways—maybe they aren’t as unlikely a couple as Austen might have thought?
“It’s pretty great to be in a film where the five Bennet sisters are sort of the strongest characters in it and are completely able to take care of themselves,” James says. “Really, none of them needs a man.”
Directed by Burr Steers, Pride and Prejudice and Zombies also stars Matt Smith, Bella Heathcote, Douglas Booth, Jack Huston, and Game of Thrones actors Lena Headey and Charles Dance.
