NeNe Leakes to return to Broadway in 'Chicago'
Since her first appearance on The Real Housewives of Atlanta, NeNe Leakes has competed in reality shows, co-hosted talk shows, and performed live onstage. Now, she makes her return to Broadway in a four-week run in Chicago.
Leakes will play Matron “Mama” Morton, most notably portrayed by Queen Latifah in the 2002 film adaptation. Her run will begin on Nov. 23 and last until Dec. 20.
Leakes made her Broadway debut last year as the wicked stepmother in Cinderella. Before that, she competed on Dancing with the Stars and The Celebrity Apprentince and had a recurring role on Glee.
Chicago — in its 19th year on Broadway — currently stars Rumer Willis as Roxie Hart, Amra-Faye Wright as Velma Kelly, Jason Danieley as Billy Flynn, and NaTasha Yvette Williams as Mama Morton. Chicago vet Carol Woods will return as Mama from Nov. 2 to Nov. 22, after which Leakes will take over.
