Laverne Cox to star in Fox's 'Rocky Horror' reboot
Laverne Cox is the new Dr. Frank-N-Furter!
Fox has cast the Emmy-nominated actress to star in a reboot of The Rocky Horror Picture Show, EW has learned.
The Orange is the New Black costar will play the sexually ambiguous Transylvanian mad scientist alien. The iconic role was previously immortalized by Tim Curry in the 1975 Rocky Horror midnight movie sensation, a film celebrating a record 40 years of theatrical distribution, a longer stretch than any other movie in history.
Fox’s two-hour television event will be directed, choreographed and executive produced by Kenny Ortega, with other executive producers including Lou Adler and Gail Berman.

On OITNB, Cox became the first openly trans woman of color to have a leading role in a mainstream scripted television series. Last year, she became the first transgender person to receive a prime-time Emmy nomination in an acting category. She also landed on the cover of Time magazine for her role in the transgender movement as well as EW. In addition to her acclaimed work in Orange is the New Black, Cox has been cast in the legal drama pilot Doubt, which is being redeveloped at CBS.
Fox also just announced premiere plans for The Rocky Horror Picture Show: The film will debut next fall, 2016.
