Natalie Portman goes ride or die in first 'Jane Got a Gun' trailer
Few productions in recent Hollywood history have been as publicly troubled as Jane Got a Gun. The Western originally began as a heralded Blacklist script from Insurgent writer Brian Duffield to be directed by Lynne Ramsay (We Need to Talk About Kevin), with Natalie Portman, Michael Fassbender, and Joel Edgerton attached to star. Fassbender then left because of reported schedule conflicts, and Ramsay walked soon after. Warrior director Gavin O’Connor quickly replaced Ramsay and hired Anthony Tambakis to rewrite the script.
After myriad additional cast changes — Jude Law and Bradley Coopr all flirted with saddling up — and a few pushed release dates, we’re finally getting our first look at footage from the film, which tells the tale of a pioneer woman turning to her ex-lover as a last resort to help defend her home and family from an oncoming gang of bounty hunters.
The nterenational trailer, which doesn’t show any obvious signs of trouble behind the scenes, teases what could be an interesting showcase for both Edgerton and Portman. And hey, how bad could a movie be with Ewan McGregor doing a Southern accent?
Jane Got a Gun is expected to hit theaters in the U.S. this February.
