How the Star Wars: The Force Awakens trailer played out on Twitter
So the new trailer for Star Wars: The Force Awakens dropped last night, and the reaction was kind of intense. John Boyega fell off a couch. Daisy Ridley cried. And a whole lot of people took to Twitter to geek out about it.
Twitter released some data around the trailer’s launch, and between 7:50 and 10:50 p.m. ET, there were more than 390,000 tweets about it. Even more impressively, when the trailer actually debuted, the number of tweets jumped from 3,700 per minute, to more than 17,000 tweets per minute — or about 283 tweets per second. It was almost as if millions of voices suddenly cried out in excitement.
Twitter also highlighted some of the night’s most retweeted tweets, including the actual trailer, posted by Star Wars and ESPN (who aired it on TV during Monday Night Football), and a note from J.J. Abrams.
