Justin Bieber felt “super violated” when nude photos of him vacationing in Bora Bora leaked online this month, but there was one part of the privacy invasion that made the 21-year-old star laugh: his father’s response.

“What do you feed that thing,” Jeremy Bieber wrote on Twitter after the pictures posted, adding the hashtag #prouddaddy and a smiley face emoticon.

“I thought it was hilarious,” Justin said in an interview with radio show Zach Sang and the Gang. “‘What do you feed that thing,’ he said. It’s such a dad thing to say.”

Jeremy was roundly criticized for his comment, and subsequently deleted the tweet. Justin, however, thought, the negative response was unwarranted. “When I found out people were hating on him for saying that, I was like, ‘Are you kidding me?’ What dad wouldn’t be proud of that? It’s not like he’s saying it to an 11-year-old. I’m 21 years old,” he said.

But despite finding some amount of levity within the situation, Justin is still upset he was put into that position in the first place. “At the end of the day, the photos, they’re not terrible. But honestly, at first — and before the reaction was what it was and still with the reaction — I still felt like I wanted to keep that part for me. You know? I was never… but I felt like it was a little bit of an invasion [of privacy],” Justin said. “I just don’t want people to think, ‘Yeah, I did it.’ It was a lot. And when I first found out about it, my heart sank.”

In a separate interview with Access Hollywood, Justin said the pictures were a violation because they made him feel uncomfortable in his own space.
