Mad Max: Fury Road sequel: George Miller says Furiosa won't star
While Charlize Theron’s Imperator Furiosa stole the show in Mad Max’s return to the big screen, it appears George Miller doesn’t currently have plans to feature her in a major way in the sequel he’s developing.
Speaking with Digital Spy, Mad Max: Fury Road director George Miller said he’s “not sure” whether audiences will see Theron back as Furiosa.
“She’s not in the Mad Max story, but one of the stories, there’s an interaction between the two,” Miller said of Furiosa’s involvement. “But I can’t really say more than that because it’s still in progress.”
Despite Furiosa’s popularity following the film’s release, it wouldn’t be a total shock to see her not appear in a sequel focused on Max Rockatansky. (Spoilers for Mad Max: Fury Road follow.) With Max leaving Furiosa, the Five Wives, and the Citadel free of Immortan Joe’s reign at the end of Fury Road, there’s a clear implication that Max’s role as aide to their cause in this story is over. (End of spoilers.)
