West tweeted late Sunday that he saw The Walk and had high praise for the high-wire biopic and its director, Robert Zemeckis.
“I just saw The Walk and it was truly inspiring! The Walk is a modern elegant masterpiece,” he wrote on Twitter. “Robert Zemeckis is a truly inventive filmmaker and captivating storyteller. He is one of my favorite directors of all time.”
Joseph Gordon-Levitt, who stars in The Walk as Philippe Petit, thanked West for his effusive take on the film.
“Glad you dug the movie, thanks!” he wrote. “And, you’ll be happy to know, Bob (as he calls himself) is as classy a guy as he is talented.”
West has dabbled in film criticism before. Back in April, he tweeted that Akira and There Will Be Blood were “equally” his two favorite movies on all time. In 2013, West also praised Guillermo Del Toro’s Pacific Rim as one of his all-time faves, and called Del Toro “a master.”
The Walk stumbled during its wide-release expansion over the weekend, finishing in seventh place at the box office with $3.6 million in ticket sales.
