A second season of Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy has been ordered by Disney XD, EW can exclusively reveal. The animated show’s sophomore run will premiere in 2017.

“We’re pleased to give fans a new season of Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy, taking them deeper into the Guardians’ universe,” said Marc Buhaj, senior vice president, programming and general manager, Disney XD. “The team at Marvel Animation continues to deliver great stories that capture the tone and spirit of the feature film and provide entirely new chapters to the Guardians of the Galaxy story.”

Season 2 will find the Guardians teaming up with The Avengers to stop an evil alien scientist named The High Evolutionary. Our heroes will also discover an ancient weapon with mysterious poweras capable of destroying them and everything they’ve sworn to protect.

Since its launch in September, Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy has delivered 4.4 million unique viewers including 1.9 million kids 2-11.

Disney XD is airing all-new episodes of the show’s first season on Saturday nights throughout October.
