The Jesus and Mary Chain haven’t put out a new studio album since 1998’s Munki, but now vocalist Jim Reid says fans can expect new music soon. “We actually just started recording,” he told Time Out New York in a recent interview. “It’s early days, but I would say it’s a more mature sound for the Mary Chain. But let’s just wait and see.”

The group split up in 1999, after six studio albums including their debut smash Psychocandy, and got back together in 2007 to perform at Coachella. Though they’ve been touring since then, they never mentioned working on a new album until now. (Rumors circulated about a potential album after the 2007 reunion, but nothing materialized.)

In recent years, the band has been joined on stage by longtime fans and stars like Mad Men star Jessica Pare and Scarlett Johansson. “I did a couple of dates with the Jesus and the Mary Chain last summer because of [Mad Men song] ‘Zou Bisou Bisou,'” Pare told EW in 2012, “which was amazing because they’ve been one of my favorite bands for forever.”
