Matthew McConaughey’s going digging for gold — again — and from the looks of it, he’s going to get very sweaty doing it.
Gold stars McConaughey as a struggling businessman named Kenny Wells who teams up with Edgar Ramirez’s equally hapless geologist to find fortune by searching for — you guessed it — gold in the Indonesian jungle. EW has an exclusive look at the first photo from the film, above.
The film is directed by Stephen Gaghan (Traffic, Rules of Engagement), with a script from Patrick Massett and John Zinman. McConaughey produces alongside Black Bear’s Teddy Schwarzman, HWY 61’s Michael Nozik, Massett, Zinman, and McConaughey. HWY 61 partner Paul Haggis, Richard Middleton and Black Bear’s Ben Stillman serve as executive producers.
Next up, McConaughey will appear in Sea of Trees, which debuted at this year’s Cannes Film Festival. He’ll also star in The Free State of Jones as Newt Knight, a Southern farmer who led a rebellion against the confederacy. That film will hit theaters in March 2016. Ramirez, meanwhile, will appear in David O. Russell’s Joy, set for Christmas Day release.
Gold will be distributed in the United States by Bob and Harvey Weinstein’s TWC-Dimension. It’s expected to hit theaters next fall.
