Those who’ve read Roald Dahl’s Matilda or seen the 1996 film it inspired know that young Matilda Wormwood was not only wise beyond her years, but possessed powers that proved she was no ordinary little girl.
Swap her selfish parents for the Dursleys and The Trunchbull for Professor Dumbledore, and Matilda could fit perfectly in another beloved British author’s books-to-films saga.
Mara Wilson, who played Matilda on screen, mused on Twitter about what life would be like for her character if she enrolled at Harry Potter’s Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry.
According to Wilson, Matilda would have been sorted into Gryffindor — though Ravenclaw would also be a strong contender — and while she might have been too old to run with the Harry-Ron-Hermione crowd, she would have approved of the trio’s antics.
“I imagine Matilda would, as a seventh year, see second year Harry, Ron, and Hermione in the restricted section, and smile to herself,” Wilson wrote.
