In a Dark, Dark Wood

Reese Witherspoon is taking on an acclaimed thriller for her next project. New Line bought the rights of In A Dark, Dark Wood from Gotham Group, which will produce alongside Witherspoon’s production company Pacific Standard.

Ruth Ware’s novel was an instant hit upon its August release. It was tabbed as an EW book of the summer and earned an A- and reached the New York Times Best Sellers list. It follows lonely crime writer Nora Shaw, who decides to attend the bachelorette party for a friend she hasn’t seen in a decade.

It’s the second New Line-Pacific Standard collaboration on a book adaptation this year: The studio snapped up Napkin Notes by Garth Callaghan in June.

Witherspoon and Pacific Standard producing partner, Bruna Papandrea, have collaborated to produce Gone Girl, Hot Pursuit, and Wild.
