Edward Snowden has joined Twitter.
The NSA whistleblower, and subject of the Oscar-winning Laura Poitras documentary Citizenfour, posted his first tweet on Tuesday from his @snowden account.
“Can you hear me now?” Snowden wrote. The five-word missive has already been retweeted more than 11,000 times.
“I used to work for the government. Now I work for the public. Director at @FreedomofPress,” reads Snowden’s bio.
That he would join Twitter is not necessarily a surprise. As The Intercept pointed out, Snowden recently discussed the social media platform with Neil deGrasse Tyson on Star Talk. In fact, Snowden’s second tweet was directed at Tyson, and referenced the recent discovery of flowing water on Mars.
