The Ridley Scott reveal-a-thon continued over at Empire today, as the Martian director dropped more hints about what’s to come in Prometheus 2 Alien: Paradise Lost.

After announcing the surprising “Alien” title addition, Scott has now explained that the sequel, which will star Noomi Rapace and Michael Fassbender, will have a connection to the franchise’s most iconic character.

“In a way it is Prometheus 2,” Scott said, referring to Alien: Paradise Lost. “It’s exactly the same story. But it was always in the works to be called that [Alien: Paradise Lost]. Is Prometheus actually taking us off course from where I’m going, which is actually backing into the first Alien… I’ve even got connections with Ripley [in this], but I’m not telling you what.”

This, again, slightly contradicts what Scott has previously said about Paradise Lost. Early this week, he claimed that the bigger Alien connections wouldn’t come until Prometheus 3 or Prometheus 4.

If that’s still the case, it seems fair to guess that the “connections with Ripley” in Paradise Lost won’t be all that substantial, but more likely than not teeing up her possible return for Neill Blomkamp’s proper Alien sequel, which is supposed to go into production some time after.
