George R.R. Martin gets Emmy victory birthday cake
George R.R. Martin celebrated his birthday in style on Sunday night. The acclaimed Game of Thrones author watched the HBO series based on his books win a record number of awards at the 67th annual Emmy Awards — and then received a special cake for his 67th birthday during the HBO after party at the Pacific Design Center in Los Angeles.
In addition to the birthday surprise, Martin was also a star of the Emmys broadcast. Host Andy Samberg singled Martin out during one part of the show, and joked that the Thrones author had told him during a commercial break that Jon Snow was still alive. (Martin thought the joke was a little funnier than Thrones co-creator David Benioff, who was spotted good-naturedly shaking his head at Samberg.)
