The Martian: Astronauts screened Matt Damon film on the International Space Station
The Martian may not hit theaters until October, but the upcoming movie has already made its premiere — in space.
Astronauts on board the International Space Station got to watch an advanced screening of The Martian this weekend. Scott Kelly and Kjell Lindgren both shared photos of their crew members watching the film, which stars Matt Damon as an astronaut left for dead on Mars. “What a treat to watch The Martian while in space and see reflections of our own journey to Mars!” Lindgren tweeted.

A few weeks ago, Lindgren told the AP that he and Kelly both read and enjoyed Andy Weir’s novel, which the film is based on, and they were hoping they would get to see the movie when it was released. They also said they chatted with Damon last month via phone when the actor was touring NASA’s Jet Propulsion Laboratory. “That was a neat conversation,” Lindgren said. “It was certainly fun for us.”
The Martian will premiere (on earth) on Oct. 2.
