One day after saying his collaboration with Iggy Azalea had taken “a bit of a rest stop,” rapper T.I. has clarified that he still considers the Australian rapper his “partner.”

“Her life has taken her in a different direction. My life is still as it was before. But Iggy is doing what she feels makes Iggy happy,” T.I. told the Associated Press. “That’s what she should do. We’re focused on making the next Iggy record and dodge the same adversities we faced last time.”

This week, T.I. told Hot 97 radio host Ebro Darden that he had not personally talked to Azalea in a while, and that their relationship hit a rough patch after Azalea’s public disagreement with Q-Tip over hip-hop history. “She had a lot thrown at her in one time, any human being anywhere is going to have a hard time,” he said. “It’s very difficult to be the new kid and to be the butt of the jokes and to be directed, like, be the direction of all the negativity, you know what I mean?… [Iggy] came at a time when culturally, this nation — she’s not from here — we were actually looking for a source for somewhere to place some pent-up aggression… And they just got it for no reason. In some cases, they brought it upon themselves, and in some cases, they were kind of just the easiest place to put some pent up aggression.”

Speaking the AP, T.I. said that he was not looking to “sever” ties with Azalea or “walk away” from the rap star. “It was more so like, ‘OK, you have a lot on your plate right now. I’m going to pull back or wait until you come to a place where you’re ready to come back to the table, so we can start again and make history some more,'” he said

After T.I.’s initial comments went viral, Azalea tweeted that she and T.I. were still in business together. “I’m sure [T.I.] will publicly clarify what he meant when he feels he has the right platform to do so and other than that, I’m chillin,” she wrote.
