From Drake-Meek to Minaj-Swift to Carney-White, beefs dominated summer 2015. And earlier this week, when Justin Bieber said on New York’s 95.5 PLJ that he doesn’t know who 17-year-old pop star—and fellow Canadian—Shawn Mendes is, the internet seemed ready for another feud in the music industry.

Alas, this one arrived at a quick resolution. Bieber made good on his promise to “check him out, for sure” and shared his endorsement of Mendes via Instagram Friday. “Shawn I checked out the music and I’m so proud!” Bieber wrote in a caption accompanying an iPhone screenshot of Mendes’ recent single “Stitches.” “So glad to see another boy from Canada crushin it. #canadiansdoitbetter”

Now that Mendes is on Bieber’s radar, who knows what the young Canadian pop stars could have in store. Mendes’ first album Handwritten debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 in April and, with “Where Are Ü Now” and “What Do You Mean?,” Bieber already has two Top 10 singles this year.
