Thursday was a big day for music premieres on Apple Music. First, Ryan Adams dropped his cover of Taylor Swift’s “Bad Blood”, and then Demi Lovato followed with the latest cut off her forthcoming album.
“Confident,” the record’s second single and title track, features empowering lyrics and a simple drumbeat. “What’s wrong with being confident?” Lovato asks repeatedly on the song.
The 23-year-old singer debuted “Confident” on Apple Music’s Beats 1 Thursday during an interview with Pete Wentz. The song comes almost three months after Lovato released Confident’s lead single, “Cool For the Summer,” and three weeks after she revealed the album’s track list on Twitter.
The record’s first two singles are undoubtedly pop-rock, but the rest of Confident will include a mix of soulful, Motown-influenced tracks, and a song that pays homage to Lovato’s late father. “It’s extremely raw [but] I definitely had some closure [with that song],” she told EW.
