Since Stephen Colbert had not yet seen the Republican debates when he late-night show taped on Wednesday, the host took some time on The Late Show to cover the GOP candidates’ staunch emulation of Ronald Reagan.

From Donald Trump’s slogan to Jeb Bush’s t-shirt, the candidates have all tried to conjure up Reagan-like comparisons.

The imitation was most apparent, however, in a commercial Colbert showed of Ted Cruz keeping a scorpion at bay, mirroring Ronald Reagan’s famous “bear in the woods” ad. Colbert was confused by Cruz’s commercial. “What does the scorpion represent?” Colbert asked. “Is is terrorism? Iran? Mexicans? Scorpions? A bear in a scorpion costume?”
