'Survivor: Second Chance': Abi says 'I was a brute' last time she played
Last time Abi-Maria Gomes played Survivor (on the Philippines season) she made one of the fastest alliances in history. But the pact with RC broke apart almost as quickly as it formed. With that in mind, does Abi plan to make another immediate alliance when she hits the beach for Survivor: Cambodia—Second Chance?
“This time around I really do want to play smart,” Abi told us out on location before the game began. “I’ve played the game before. I know I made mistakes. So my strategy is to chill out for a minute. Let people come to me, keep my mouth shut as much as I will try to, and my ears open. I really do want to play smart, I want to play the game in phases because I’m here for the kill.”
Abi no doubt was asked to come back and voted into this season due to her feisty personality, but it’s not something she’s always proud of. In fact, when asked what her biggest mistake was last time, she references her epic feud with RC. “My biggest mistake was I let me emotions take control over me,” she says. “I lost control. So that was bad. The way I handled RC was wrong. I lost my finesse there. I was a brute. I got to do a lot of growing on national television with the whole world watching me. It was like holding a mirror and seeing all my flaws, and hopefully almost four years later I have learned something about myself. And I hope the circumstances and the weather and the starvation won’t get to me, and hopefully I’ll be in control of myself and get it and play my A game like I promised the first time around.”
Abi also insists that while she is going to play hard, that she did not begin playing back in the United States, and made no pre-game alliances during the fan-voting period. “I haven’t made any alliances yet. I’m a little smarter than that. We know making pre-game alliances doesn’t really work in Survivor world. An example to me is Francesca. I’ve heard through the grapevine that she had some alliances with Cochran and some other guys from the New York Survivor family and that literally bit her in the ass.”
