The hat makes the man, at least in Donald Trump’s case. Trump’s poll numbers keep rising, and as Thursday night’s episode of The Late Show posited, part of that success may be due to the popularity of his “Make America Great Again” hat.

Host Stephen Colbert suggested that the key to any successful presidential campaign is in the headgear. The host advised other candidates to explain their campaigns using various hats: Rick Perry should wear a ten-gallon hat that reads his most famous misstep: “Oops.” And Lindsay Graham should show off some Southern pride and Middle East policy with a bonnet that says: “I do declare … war on Iran.”

Watch the clip above to see Colbert suggest a hat for Hillary Clinton to help explain her email scandal.
