As any diehard #TGIT fan knows, an essential part of fandom is shipping. For the uninitiated, to ship characters is to support the idea of a relationship between two or more characters, usually — but not necessarily! — in a romantic sense. But what do the Shondaland casts ship?

Tony Goldwyn of Scandal pushed for his character Fitz and Kerry Washington’s Olivia, while How to Get Away With Murder‘s Viola Davis wryly picked Annalise and Annalise’s puppy-dog-eyed student Wes, played by Alfred Enoch. “I think it’s a mix of a maternal relationship but also at the same time, it’s a great kind of twisted student, demented teacher, demented mentor relationship,” she explains. “Plus, Alfie … he’s cute.”

In the video above from our exclusive cover shoot, more Shondaland denizens chime in on who they ship, including Matt McGorry, Karla Souza, and Aja Naomi King of HTGAWM, Bellamy Young of Scandal, Ellen Pompeo of Grey’s Anatomy, and even Shonda Rhimes herself. And the results vary, because, as Young puts it, “There’s a lot of love in Shondaland.”

Meredith. Alex. Bailey. The doctors are definitely in on Shonda Rhimes' hospital melodrama.
