The first episode of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert introduced the show’s new opening credits, its new house band (Jon Batiste and Stay Human), and a bunch of jokes at the expense of Donald Trump. And through it all, host Stephen Colbert seemed to have a total blast. Ahead, GIF proof that Colbert had a great night as first-time host of the venerable CBS franchise.

Stephen Colbert started his show by bowling a strike…

…and then got a little encouragement from an old friend.

He was excited to meet his studio audience.

(Really excited.)

Something even that pesky deal he made with a demon to promote Sabra hummus couldn’t deny.

When it came time for interviews, Colbert dinged George Clooney for his attire…

…but still got the Oscar-winning actor to participate in a silly sketch.

He also mixed it up with Jeb (Jeb!) Bush.

And then closed it out by singing “Everyday People” with Mavis Staples (and a bunch of other musicians).

Not bad, Mr. Colbert! See you on Wednesday night.
