Hugh Jackman is getting ready to hang up his adamantium claws after playing Wolverine in the X-Men films, but he wouldn’t be opposed to trading them in for a dashing suit and Aston Martin.

The actor recently appeared on The Project, an Australian news program, and the anchors asked whether he would be up for taking on the role of James Bond. “I’d seriously consider it,” he responded.

As it turns out, though, Jackman already considered playing 007 back when he was filming X2. According to the actor, the Bond camp approached him at that time, but he ultimately passed on the opportunity. “I was like, ‘Ah, I don’t think it’s the right time.’ But it was not an easy one to give up.”

Daniel Craig will portray the iconic MI6 agent again this Nov. 6 when Spectre hits theaters, but people are already placing bets on who might fill his combat-ready wingtips for the next round. Tom Hardy, Idris Elba, and Damian Lewis are some of the names being toted, at least according to polls and bets from U.K. bookmakers.

In a recent profile published in Esquire U.K., Craig was asked whether he would consider coming back for one more Bond movie. “At this moment, no,” he said. “I have a life and I’ve got to get on with it a bit. But we’ll see.”
