A brand-new trailer for The Shannara Chronicles just debuted during the 2015 MTV Video Music Awards. The new show, which is set to debut in 2016, is based on the series of fantasy books by Terry Brooks. From MTV:

“It’s an epic quest of a show that follows us all as we’re trying to save the world,” actor Austin Butler, who plays Wil on the show, told EW during Comic-Con. “It takes place hundreds of years in the future, after mankind has sort of destroyed itself.”

Al Gough and Miles Millar (both of whom worked on Spider-Man 2 and Smallville) are executive producers and show runners of The Shannara Chronicles. Jon Favreau, Jonathan Liebesman, Brooks, Dan Farah and Gene Stein also serve as executive producers. Liebesman (Battle: Los Angeles, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles) directed the first two episodes.
