Zac Efron’s latest film, We Are Your Friends, finds his character, Cole Carter, in search of a way out of the 9-to-5 life in the San Fernando Valley. Luckily, he just might have what it takes to make it in the music industry, but the wannabe DJ will have to discover what makes him – and his music – truly stand out.

The film’s soundtrack features plenty of music from Years & Years, Deorro, and more. But to celebrate the premiere, director Max Joseph, who also serves as the co-host of MTV’s Catfish, put together a playlist of tracks from the film that didn’t quite make it to the soundtrack.

“When you make a movie with A LOT of music in it you can’t always put all the songs onto the soundtrack. They just don’t all fit,” Joseph tells EW. “I think we have a pretty sweet soundtrack but for anyone who sees the movie, likes the music, and buys the soundtrack and doesn’t find that one jam from the film that they were really feeling, then this playlist is for you. Conversely, if you haven’t seen the movie, don’t plan to, or just want to judge me based on how much you like or dislike these tracks, feel free to listen to this playlist as well! Everybody wins.”
