Rob Lowe's comedy 'The Grinder' casts Christina Applegate as former flame
Christina Applegate will be on TV again this fall, playing a Kelly. But not that one.
The woman who rose to fame as Kelly Bundy on Married… with Children and most recently starred in this summer’s big-screen sequel Vacation will guest-star in The Grinder, EW has learned.
The Fox comedy features Rob Lowe as Dean Sanderson, an actor who played a lawyer on a drama titled The Grinder that just ended, so he heads back to Boise, where he’ll tries his hand at real law with his brother, who is an attorney (Fred Savage). Applegate will appear in the show’s fifth episode as Kelly Summers, who is an old flame of Dean’s from his high school days. A lifelong Boise resident, Kelly says she doesn’t have a TV and has never seen The Grinder — a fact that Dean finds extremely appealing.
Applegate, who guested on two episodes of Showtime comedy Web Therapy earlier this year, headlined NBC’s 2011-2012 comedy Up All Night. She also starred in 2013’s big-screen sequel Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues, as well as the 2004 original Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy.
Entourage vet Emmanuelle Chriqui will also guest-star on the series as a romantic interest for Dean, but in a different context: She plays his colleagu and lover on The Grinder, the show within the show.
The Grinder — the actual show, not the show within the show — hits the air Sept. 29.
