She’s played a TV doctor and a CIA analyst. Next for Katherine Heigl: lawyer!

Heigl has landed the starring role in CBS’ revamping of its drama pilot Doubt. She’ll play Sadie Ellis, who is billed as a “smart, chic, successful defense lawyer at a boutique firm who shockingly gets romantically involved with one of her clients, who may or may not be guilty of a brutal crime.”

Doubt was shot for this year’s pilot season, but CBS decided to re-cast and re-shoot the project rather than pick the title up to series. Heigl takes over the lead role originally played by KaDee Strickland. Some original co-stars who are still on board include Laverne Cox, Dule Hill, Dreama Walker and Elliott Gould.

The casting reunites Heigl with Grey’s Anatomy executive producers Tony Phelan and Joan Rater.

Heigl most recently starred in last fall’s short-lived NBC thriller State of Affairs.
