While making the rounds at the 2015 Wizard World Comic Con Chicago, actor Nathan Fillion expressed his desire to play comic book hero Booster Gold.
Fillion was joined by fellow Firefly actors Summer Glau and Adam Baldwin at the Con. During the Q&A portion, he was asked which hero — DC or Marvel — he would like to play if he had his pick.
“I think I could take a pretty good crack at Booster Gold,” Fillion said to fan applause. “That’s kind of my niche — show-offy, vain. I think I could handle that — not too bright.”
Booster Gold, born Michael Jon Carter, is a DC character from the distant future. His football career crumbled when he was caught betting on his own games. Hungry for fame, he hijacked a power suit and traveled back in time, using his knowledge of the future to turn himself into a superhero celebrity. Equipped with advanced technology that grants him superhuman abilities, he eventually becomes a defender of the time stream.
If the opportunity to play this character doesn’t arise, Fillion mentioned DC’s Ambush Bug as an alternative. “Remember that guy? Little bit off his rocker,” he said. “You’d never see my face.” The actor finished his response by adding, “But I think Greatest American Hero is due for a reboot.”
Fillion is no stranger to superheroes. He previously voiced Green Lantern in animated Justice League movies like Doom and Throne of Atlantis, and he also played a small but not unnoticed role in Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy as a monstrous prison inmate.
