Arrow Flash spin-off Vixen releases videos of character origins
- TV Show
Before the Arrow–Flash universe expands even more with Vixen, the CW has dropped two new behind-the-scenes videos. Along with new footage from the upcoming animated series, executive producer Marc Guggenheim offers up details on the first episode.
Premiering on the CW Seed on Aug. 25, Vixen spins a new origin for the DC heroine. “We’re gonna meet Mari McCabe in this first episode using her powers — basically as Vixen — being chased by Arrow and Flash,” Guggenheim says in the first video. “And then we flash back to a few days earlier and discover her in jail.”
The character of Vixen draws her abilities from the mystical Tantu Totem dangling from her neck. With it she’s able to tap into the abilities of animals, something that Arrow and Flash are ill-equipped to face, as seen in the footage from the second video.
“This is our first opportunity to do a superhero who’s a woman and also of color. So we’re very excited about that,” said Guggenheim. “It’s also a chance to do a character whose powers are based in mysticism.”
Megalyn Echikunwoke will lend her voice to Vixen, while the animated series will also feature the voices of Stephen Amell as Arrow, Grant Gustin as The Flash, Katie Cassidy as Black Canary, Emily Bett Rickards as Felicity Smoak, and Carlos Valdes as Cisco Ramon.
