Exclusive: Chiklis picks up a badge again, this time in Gotham City

August 21, 2015 at 05:48 PM EDT

Michael Chiklis is back in a precinct. Here’s the actor on the set of Fox’s Gotham, where he’s once again playing the type of character he won an Emmy portraying in FX’s The Shield: The super-tough cop — only this officer is pretty different, morality-wise, than Vic Mackey.

Chiklis plays Captain Nathaniel Barnes, a “law and order zealot who lands on the GCPD like a tornado, ripping out the dead wood of Gotham’s police force.” Chiklis is a series regular and introduced in the fourth episode of Gotham season 2, titled “Strike Force” (a nod to Mackey’s lawless cop team on The Shield).

See above for your first look at Chiklis in season 2 as he squares off with James Gordon (Ben McKenzie).
