Kanye West replaces Frank Ocean at FYF music festival
UPDATE: Frank Ocean’s publicist released a statement on behalf of the artist early Friday morning: “We’re really sorry that due to a scheduling conflict beyond our control, Frank Ocean is not going to be able to appear at FYF Festival as planned. Frank had really been looking forward to the performance and to seeing all of his fans, so it is with great regret that we announce this cancellation.”
EARLIER: Dreams of catching Frank Ocean live and teasing new music were squashed Thursday: The singer canceled his headlining appearance at his weekend’s FYF music festival in Los Angeles, festival organizers announced. But they’ve found a pretty strong replacement.
FYF tapped Kanye West to fill the 75-minute set that closes the main stage on Day 1. A statement on FYF’s website read that “Frank Ocean has decided on his own terms to cancel his appearance.”
Rumors of Ocean’s long-awaited follow-up album to his sensational debut, Channel Orange, bubbled up in April with a vague Tumblr post. It also announced a magazine published by Ocean called Boys Don’t Cry that was accompanied with a #JULY2015 release. Neither the album nor the publication were released last month.
Similarly, West’s album after Yeezus is expected sometime this year, but there is no firm release date. This is West’s third festival turn in L.A. in less than a calendar year, playing at Wango Tango in May and last year’s Made In America Festival.
EW’s request for comment from Ocean’s camp was not immediately returned.
