CMT announced Tuesday that the network would air its original documentary, Johnny Cash: American Rebel on Sept. 12 at 9 p.m. ET, the 12th anniversary of Cash’s death.

Featuring interviews and anecdotes from his children, as well as Rick Rubin, Clive Davis, and country stars like Eric Church, Sheryl Crow, Merle Haggard, John Cougar Mellencamp, and Willie Nelson, the film celebrates Cash’s life, and depicts his struggle between touring and staying home with his family.

The doc will tell Cash’s story through a dozen of his iconic songs, the “essentials,” including “Folsom Prison Blues,” “Jackson,” and “San Quentin.” Check out the trailer.
